William didn't know the answer
Why cant I do this?
Don't I want this? enough
I am playing this game
where I am slowly making progress
but so slowly
that my second thoughts are catching up with me.
Am I an honest player?
Do I have virtuous
I can play out?
Cards in my sleeve
that are stained of sweat.
Now I can't use them, because I waited too long -
sub-screams of regret.
Will I ever wander in the great heights?
and feed on wild bees and their honey?
And forget about atms
and what to do with my money.
---
To be or not to be
that's the million dollar question
William didn't know the answer
so he sat and wrote God a letter.
The letter was well formulated
with courtly praises for good measure
so he stapled the thing onto a dove
once he'd wrote the address "Heaven".
He prayed and bowed and knelt to God
and with time he grew impatient
so at last on christmas day it came
signed with "return to sender".
The disregard it struck him hard
and he didn't quite get the gesture
so he threw the phrase into a play
hoping for fan mails from know-betters.
You're probably wondering about now
just what this here is all about
Well it's something
Yeah
It's something...
