I Am A Child Born In 2001
I am a child born in 2001. The first year of my life became overcast by a single day in November; a day that loomed over our lives, and will continue to until after we die. This was only the beginning of a long and miserable life.
I am a child born in 2001. Standardized testing terrorized my life. The nights I shed tears in fear the day before being sat down in an eerily silent room to take a test to see if we are sufficiently being taught what will be on the exact same tests. As we get older, the more stressed we get, because we are given more and more work every day.
I am a child born in 2001. More and more kids are shooting each other every single day. We live in fear of losing our lives while our voices are lost about what to do to keep us from getting shot.
Why are you so stressed? Your generation doesn’t know about hard work! Why are you always upset? Politics has nothing to do with you. You’re anxious because of your phones!
We are walking balls of stress because we can’t get jobs or afford college. We walk every single day trying not to think about how it might be our last. Everyone is hating and hurting each other and we’re not allowed to have a voice about it. Turning off our phones won’t stop us from being afraid. There is nothing to make us feel safe. We don’t feel like we’re ever good enough.
I Am A Child Born in 2001, and I am barely a senior.
