Even God Cried

Even God cried
When we lay you to rest
Tears in downpours
    Drowning beating hearts
          In chests
No umbrella protection
For the sorrows
That bestill wicked whispers
   Of evil expectations.
No raincoat keeping
   This sweetest of souls
           Here with us
Enveloped in our love and light.
Droplets large enough
To swallow the rock lodged between
          My eyes
Carry you away from us
      Upon drug-induced
      Red-wristlets of pain.

Yes, even God cried
    When your flame
        Took its final flicker
Dancing upon the darkness
         Buried deeper than
             OUR candles could touch
Even God cried
       Galaxy tears engulfing
            The very peace you sought...

Hold you,
    We will
        In your tranquility
Memories of love
     Drying God’s tears
             but a moment.
For, even God cried
When you walked through
Heaven’s front door.

Author's Note
This is a tribute to a former student of mine who had a mother for whom she could never do right. At age 28, just one week ago, she succumbed to the eating disorder and depression, taking her own life. She was the sweetest soul and one who lived to make others’ lives better somehow. And she did.
It’s also inspired by the fact that, with no forecast for rain, it poured rain only during her funeral on Sunday, then stopped.
