The Gift

Why is it that Love...
and the lack thereof
Seem always to summon the Muse
from within?

Is that first intimation
of word exploration
inspired by Eros?
Of that I'm not sure.

More likely it's Enyo
who'se doing the prodding
or her brother Ares,
the Greek Gods of War.

There's nothing like heartbreak
to fuel inspiration
and focus the anger
we feel when we're wronged.

So we take what we're given...
and cherish our Muse for
our pain is the gift
that will fuel our song.
