The worst thing someone’s ever said
The first person I told I loved
Told me “you are incapable of love”
I remember the moment
Reading the words
From my phone screen
Those words pierced my retinas
Tunnelled deep into my skin
Made my heart crunch
Breathless and weak
I could barely raise my arms
My eyes flooded with tears
After all these years
I asked if they remembered
The words they said
Their answer was no
That’s what people do
They break you down with a sentence
Then forget about you
