Daredevil days my insouciant youth
Infant bravado green and risible
The fairer sex wooing with mawkish couth
To true love remaining invisible
Lug ponderous portmanteau middle age
Packed tightly with shame, resentment and guilt
Profound melancholy nought can assuage
Enervates my will wrecks life I have built
You purge from my soul misery and woe
Filling each corner with beauty and art
Your love I can trust your eyes tell me so
With timorous pause I lay bare my heart
My words sincere though seeming bombastic
Descry my love is true not fantastic

Thank you. I know this may seem untrue but I enter competitions because they provide a challenge and force inspiration when absent inspiration from a muse. A win occasionally is nice too😁❤️

A fine sonnet that shows emotional courage. It takes a brave poet to lay bare his heart with personal detailing. This doesn't seem bombastic to me at all, just really clever and well-worded. And I love the rhyme! You match "bombastic" with "fantastic", and that would have been beyond me. Great job, Gahdess, and good luck with the comp!

Thank you Sir Crow. I used the "(of speech, writing, etc.) high-sounding; high-flown; inflated; pretentious.
" definition of bombastic. I am glad it doesn't read so. I thought of pedantic or didactic as rhymers with bombastic but their meanings didn't quite fit as well as fantastic.
