A Winter's Walk
I need a winter's walk,
In halos of the lanterns—
I need the cold within my blood.
Like autumn years swiftly passing—
I suffer daydreams of your heart,
I close my eyes when I make you smile—
Happy vision and apparition only;
A decade gone by without your eyes.
I took my first breath
And never ceased my wandering—
There was an angel to pursue,
But the demons took me far from you;
I swore I was dying in imagined arms.
We will take your blood and promise.
We will carry you a thousand years from now.
I suffer daydreams and cannot dare fall sleep;
I close my eyes when you pray for me
As I dig a grave on my side of the border.
I suffer daydreams and need a winter's walk,
No wind, no hand—only the candles.
I fear rest, should your echo arise.
I fear waking should I never see you again.
