What's the rod? Never heard of it.

"Spare the rod spoil the child" a biblical encouragement to beat your children

I've never really read the bible...and I never beat my kids

there are no rewards for not beating your children - you are not meant to beat your children :-p

I find the bible useful (as toilet tissue) :-p

Was not looking for rewards...i was stating a fact

We are perhaps a few years different , as I am 63...

Yet , I was raised strict Roman Catholic , with good

parents , in many ways...

Yet , I was whipped with the belt , night after night ,

when I was young , until the welts came up on my

back and butt...

Later , the hand and fist , until at 12 / 13 I rebelled

and went after my father right after he got out of

the hospital from a heart attack , and tried to kill him...

Not good on any side...I got verbal abuse after...

But physical was over...

Now here is something you might not know :

Rule Of Thumb = Not To Hit Wife Or Child With

The Rod , Switch , Ruler , Stick , Cane , etc...

Any thicker than your thumb...some old courts

prosecuted those who did...

It does so much damage , and I had to work

through years of buried anger to get to where I

am now...I am pretty sure you know this...:(

I know you as well have come a long way

I remember getting the odd swat on the butt for particularly naughty behavior as a child. But my parents would have been horrified if they saw anyone do more than that to a child. I think people use that statement as an excuse to behave out of proportion to the "crime" with impunity. I was raised on love and patience (for the most part) by my parents. I raised my daughter the same way. Violence is unnecessary for any lesson. Big huge hugs, my friend

my father was a firm believer in not sparing the rod. probably why i'm such a kinky skank  now.
tho, in all seriousness... i'm loathe to think of how many children are physically abused beneath the guise  of religion...
... one teaches a child with love, not fear.
