She Wanted to Talk

We'd been friends,
Like,
Forever.

Just friends.

Then,
With benefits.

But now,
(For the past many months),
Again,
Just friends.

The kind of friends,
You can tell anything to,
Ask anything of --
They are always there for you,
You for them;
Anything,
Anytime,
Any place.

So,
Although I knew she was with,
This other guy --
When she said she wanted to talk,
To show me something;
I said,
"Sure".

Over coffee,
We talked,
Of many things,
All now long past.

Nibbling on a cookie,
We laughted,
At many things,
That happened,
Long ago.

She said,
She had a major decision to make,
And talking with me,
Was helping her make it.

As we finished,
A second cup of coffee,
She held out her hand,
Showed me a ring.

I beautiful,
Very large diamond --
Clearly an engagement ring.

As she pulled it from her finger,
"Talking,
Laughing,
Today,
With you,
Has made it easy,
For me to take this off,
And return it,
To him."

And,
"He is not my right guy."

Finally,
Looking me straight in the eyes,
"I will wait for my right guy.
Until he decides,
I'm his right girl."
