If This Boat Was Made of Glass
If this boat was made of glass, it would be like clear crystal, so transparent
We could see the bottom of the lake, we could see the bottom of the sea
We’d be able to pretend we were there with the fishes, silently swimming
We could lay down and watch the underwater world go by
While floating above, hands still at our sides
If this boat was made of glass, Mermaids could swim close, hands nearly touching
We could see their hair floating free, we could see what little girls dream to be
We’d be able to watch them dive down deep, silently speaking
We could lay down and imagine we are swimming too
While floating above, pushing the waves, over and through
If this boat was made of glass, the Loch Ness could observe us undetected
We couldn’t see too far, the water is too dark, but he could certainly see us, you and me
We’d be able to communicate that we mean no harm, barely whispering
We could lay down and wait for his answer, his body to come forward
While floating above, eating apples from the orchard
If this boat was made of glass, Hydra might not see us up here
We could just float on by, not moving a muscle, while she looks up and only sees water rustle
We’d be able to bypass all her heads, all her teeth, wet and shinging
We could not lie down so all she sees is sky
While floating above undetected, then heaving a big sigh
If this boat was made of glass, the Qalupalik hum would bounce right off
We could see their green skin and long fingernails, she thinks she’s a beauty
We’d be able to just keep going, there would be no kidnapping
We could lie there and watch her scream and beg
While speeding past in our boat so fast
If this boat were made of glass, we could have adventures untold
We could not only see the sky, but also what’s beneath
We’d be able to keep a journal, all our discoveries and drawings
We could lay down and look up, watching the birds and clouds
While making plans for our next adventure so vast
We could see the bottom of the lake, we could see the bottom of the sea
We’d be able to pretend we were there with the fishes, silently swimming
We could lay down and watch the underwater world go by
While floating above, hands still at our sides
If this boat was made of glass, Mermaids could swim close, hands nearly touching
