Graduation
Stooped in gray
Though in my eyes
Purple would better suit
Regal and wise
Who could transmute
protege to prize.
Like the gardener to weeds
You uprooted from me
Doubt and self-flagellation
Instilled strong seeds which would be
A beautiful new creation.
You are crippling now, ancient tree,
Who shaded me from sun and rain,
I fear you shall fall when I’m not looking,
To avoid seeing my pain.
You tell me in your gentle way
It’s time for you to go
With your hand on the door
My great mentor
(Do I have to let go?)
Though in my eyes
Purple would better suit
Regal and wise
Who could transmute
protege to prize.
Like the gardener to weeds
You uprooted from me
Doubt and self-flagellation
Instilled strong seeds which would be
A beautiful new creation.
You are crippling now, ancient tree,
Who shaded me from sun and rain,
I fear you shall fall when I’m not looking,
To avoid seeing my pain.
You tell me in your gentle way
It’s time for you to go
With your hand on the door
My great mentor
(Do I have to let go?)
