Tattered and Torn
Shattered remains of his broken life
all lovingly placed in his backpack
cherished memories of a time passed
He now wonders the lonely streets at night
trying to take shelter from the cold
motorists pass by look at him with disdain
with his tattered and torn suit
He was once a buisness man
before his mind snapped
after the passing of his beloved wife
He now shouts out obscenties to an uncaring world
stays drunk as often as he can
now just a shell of who he once was
I look at him with a broken heart
knowing that he could be any of us
I stop to see if he wants to share a smoke with me
he accepts hands shaking as he trys to light the cig
I say here let me as I strike the match
he inhales deeply with a sigh of relief
He tells me his story
with tears in his eyes
I feel for him
deep in my heart
I give him what money I have
hoping oblivion will keep him warm tonight
he shuffles off into the night
taking a part of my soul with him
all lovingly placed in his backpack
cherished memories of a time passed
He now wonders the lonely streets at night
trying to take shelter from the cold
motorists pass by look at him with disdain
with his tattered and torn suit
He was once a buisness man
before his mind snapped
after the passing of his beloved wife
He now shouts out obscenties to an uncaring world
stays drunk as often as he can
now just a shell of who he once was
I look at him with a broken heart
knowing that he could be any of us
I stop to see if he wants to share a smoke with me
he accepts hands shaking as he trys to light the cig
I say here let me as I strike the match
he inhales deeply with a sigh of relief
He tells me his story
with tears in his eyes
I feel for him
deep in my heart
I give him what money I have
hoping oblivion will keep him warm tonight
he shuffles off into the night
taking a part of my soul with him
