The Freedom of Far Away Smiles
In this country we are born free, yet we are everywhere in chains
It is hard to free fools from the chains they revere as fashion, fortune, and fame
For it has been said that a slave is one who waits for someone to come and free him
But looking through the bars we don’t even realize our freedom has been taken away
Freedom is now but a dream because responsibility has enslaved us
We were born free, but want and desire have captured and imprisoned us
We were free until we yielded to the truth of our decisions
For freedom is the right to live as we wish
The truly young have the liberty to be carefree and content
Children are able to say everything and therefor are able to do everything
They are who we were and who we have forgotten we used to be
Cry “Freedom!” and leave your chains behind, unfettered shackles lying on the floor
Run barefoot through the spring grass and soak in the sunshine
Listen to the wild birds and feel the breeze upon your face
Freedom is what you do with what's been done to you
And we are entangled in problems having become ensnared in this life
Liberty is the right to choose and freedom is the result of that choice
But our choices have cost us our freedom as mature adults longing for our dreams
So cherish the children with whim and fancy, with dreams of imagination and
far away smiles on their faces, for we too were once free
It is hard to free fools from the chains they revere as fashion, fortune, and fame
For it has been said that a slave is one who waits for someone to come and free him
But looking through the bars we don’t even realize our freedom has been taken away
Freedom is now but a dream because responsibility has enslaved us
We were born free, but want and desire have captured and imprisoned us
We were free until we yielded to the truth of our decisions
For freedom is the right to live as we wish
