Women are Bones
Women are bones
Covered with flesh and fat.
With veins, and arteries,
And nerves, inter-connected
With the heart, and brain.
The bones define the shape
And the flesh and the fat
Fill it out in lovely ways,
But those aren't much use
Without a heart and a brain.
What do I love most?
The body, heart, or brain?
The body is enticing
To observe, and truly
Separates her from men.
Her body might catch
My attention at first
But her brain will hold
My interest much longer.
But what about her heart?
Does the heart contain feelings?
Aren't they really in the brain?
For the heart is just a muscle
To pump blood and mix in air.
So why does my heart want her?
When I look at her body,
My brain arouses my heart.
My body reacts to her touch
So, I feel with my hands
And also with my heart.
The physical attraction,
Although pleasant and thrilling,
Doesn't create the same feelings
As the later mental attraction
That leads to the emotional one.
Feelings are all just thoughts.
The brain creates feelings
And controls the body.
The heart cannot think,
And only the brain can feel.
Is her brain different
From mine, a man?
Are we not all human?
And share the same
Evolved sapient brain?
If her brain resembles my brain,
why do I love hers,
And not the brains of men?
It must be the body
That makes me love a woman.
But, if love is a feeling
Which begins as a thought
It must be, therefore,
That I love a woman's brain
More than her body.
That wonderful brain
Holds intriguing thoughts
And mysterious emotions
That cause me to love her
And wish to explore her deeper.

First, I enjoyed this piece for it's introspectiveness.
Like you, I believe we are first attracted by
outward appearance, which does not speak
very highly of us, as it shows how shallow
the brain can be. It is when the opportunity
presents itself and we delve deeper into the
person below the surface, that the shallowness gives
way to a deeper desire to either accept or reject
what is found there. If our psyche produces
pleasant feelings and thoughts, and likewise
theirs' does also, then the door to love is opened
and we must then decide whether to pass through.
Therefore, given the subject of the piece and
the last stanza, may I offer this as an alternative,
as I feel it has a deeper double meaning.
1....Searching for meaning and understanding.
2....Choosing that part of her which is most pleasing.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure I like the word, "picking" because it makes me think of picking one's nose. I certainly like the word "brain". What about, "Bones and Brain"?

:-)))) Well, yes, if one associates "picking" with that thought, (which I did not when it came to mind). I was more along the lines of "May I pick your brain, to see what you think" (an old turn of phrase, I learned years back).
"Bones and Brain" I feel would be an improvement, However, I think there is a better one yet. How about something which refers to the heart as well as the brain, since the poem concentrate more on those two things, and one can love another person with their heart, even when the brain says it's not good for you.
I'll give this some more thought, but since it is your poem, you should title it as you see fit.
