The Town Of Secret

               
my depression has a voice      
it echos in the hollow spaces      
where everything is grey      
       
it stirs Melancholy      
& her husband Pain      
they reside within my ache      
where they have a child called Shame      
       
they've set up house      
inside my soul      
where they argue everynight      
fighting for control      
over emotions within      
     
Shame shouts for attention      
but Melancholy is self absorbed      
she relates only to Pain      
       
Shame is kept hidden      
& out of sight      
the walking abortion      
they'd rather forget      
       
he's battered & bruised      
he keeps silent for fear      
of being reported to the id      
a society that exterminates      
unwanted children like him      
       
he has no one to turn to      
until Guilt shows up on the scene      
his real father      
who never knew      
about a child called Shame      
       
his mother Melancholy      
says      
"here take your kid"      
       
he says      
"gladly,      
 come on little brother      
let's get the hell out of here"      
       
now free,      
Pain can no longer harm      
the little boy named Shame      
       
they still reside inside my soul      
in a town called secret sin    
i take ownership      
over the feelings deep inside    
       
not allowing them to run over me      
with these wild      
& unwanted feely children      
they're all mine      

i can't pawn them off on anyone else      
so i might as well rename them      
     
i'll call them "Truth"
