Confort-Zones and Cages

How strange it is
To find myself
On the open horizon
I’ve gazed upon
With hungry eyes
For years
The shackles have been removed
Leaving me unbound
Free
Yet
Vulnerable
To the affects of exposure

Feet
Don’t fail me now
As I tred onward
Atop unfamiliar terrain
Never to return again
For
I’ve changed
I’m not the same
And
Must continue on
Past the boundaries
I’ve built home upon

Strange it is
To see how far I’ve come
And
Stranger it is to see
The voyage ahead
Remains unknown

Fearful
Yet
Hopeful
As an arrow shot in the dark
Towards the stars
I aim to hit
An allusive mark
Come
Fall or fly
I shoot to spark
The hidden parts
Of me
Thrown into the unknown
By a boy with dreams
Like seeds

-I hope to grow

Inch by inch
Mile by mile
The comfort of a cage
Was my home
For awhile
But
The time has come
For freedom
And
I dare take on
What was once just gazed upon:
The open Horizon
Where the sky meets the mountains
And Sea
I hear the stars
Calling me
As I walk on
Exposed to the elements
Yet
Free to grow
Past the bounds
Formerly known
By the dangers of comfort-zones
And
Self-set-shackles

Author's Note
Unemployed after having gone down with the ship that was my store closing, I found myself exposed to the elements of being left to my own devices. It was there I felt hope for what the future meant, but also fear of the unknown. After working for nearly a decade in the same space, growth was limited. I had a hunger for something more but the stability and comfort became a cage I allowed myself bound by. Now, I find myself free to explore the avenues I had once just gazed upon, longingly. I am on the horizon I formerly looked to from a distance. The dreams I planted can now be tended to. There is a lot of hard work ahead, but it’s time to embrace the call of change and use the things I have learned to persevere.
