A Funny Day
Its bin a funny day,
a lazy day, they come more often
As is my want, I drank a coffee,
two to be precise,
a quid a time and worth it
and read the Independent.
I don’t take sides and like its style.
A holiday treat for a little child
single dad I think, school holidays today,
Grand-ma paid for the treat
what they had I did not see
the child said "Pepper's hot"
which made us smile.
I think I smelt fried chips.
wouldn't be surprised
my lunch was omelette
quite enough for me.
Jack at home had had his meal,
quite enough for him.
I left to shop.........
in-car-charger for my phone,
called in the Bank, paid off the card,
the phone bill settled next.
Saw the lady in the shop,
sorting childrens' shoes
asked if she had a fetish,
she laughed, pushed my arm
I know her very well, well enough
to sell me shoes and polish.
Its bin a funny day,
the half so far that is.
There's a stillness in the street
no fortunes made today
shop-rents barely covered.
Quiet Fridays are bad news,
roll on five o'clock.
I write as aimless as the day.
this does not excite,
this is life, or part of life,
ordinary, un-exclaimed and simple.
Yes. its bin a funny day.
A funny, funny day.
