Two tall glasses

From the night
 we laughing entered
with others dispersed
 to corner seats and
 bracket lighted nooks
to talk and gaze.
Two tall glasses waiting
 a balm for which
we had no  need.

Soft tunes lulled the mind
away from work and worries
spoke of love joining us in
whispered confirmations.
Months had passed
Veils and fears ,torn away ,
childish dreams returned,
Goatherd shepherdess
 searched  pastures,green
and dryad trodden banks.
Of what we talked
I do not remember,but
details  not important,
vague enchantment enough.

We stayed a little while
then through the latch and porch
We gladly went to the warm damp
and friendly night air to the car
along the road to  town,
Home,fire and curtain comfort
Coffee in a cup instant,
music  same as last we met
before the fire and flickering shadows
We listened.leaning shoulders.
 glowing faces, shyly certain eyes
making peaceful demonstrations
against the three month wait.
