Mayo
I look up at it, and I love it and I fear it
As the light grows dim, as the sun falls down
Dark grey clouds and yellow light hugs the horizon
It calls to me and I must go but first I must sleep til morning
The moon casts its strange white light through my window
it creeps across my blankets and smothers me
finally I see it hanging in the sky gibbous and glaring
Now I must sleep into a day that will bleed for me or I for it
There it is, tomorrow and tomorrow, and tomorrows beyond tomorrow
and every one is a beast that lies before me hungry and greedy
Wanting so much, but maybe not too much.
Maybe just enough, maybe just all I can give
I look up at it and it calls to me, and I love it and I fear it and I want it
and it hangs there beckoning, taunting, caressing, threatening
And it is mine and it knows and that’s ok because tomorrow
Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow with mayo
