Death of an Affair
How do you describe love
When you're not sure what it is?
How do you fight the feeling
When you know you can't be his?
How do you erase visions
That keep replaying in your head?
How do you stop thinking about
All the things he said?
How do you let go of the pain
Perpetrated by his actions?
How do you adjust the thoughts of mind
To view love through forced refractions?
How do you mend a poet's heart
After a battle lost to vulnerability?
How do you bring light to darkness
And give the blind new eyes to see?
How do you stop the seeking
Of something greater than the good?
What's it take to realize the fact
Your heart may never be loved as it should?
Angry tears of self-infliction,
Burn my cheeks as they tumble down.
Bad decisions and weak moments of want
Sends my humility crashing to the ground.
Magnetism will be my hollow grave.
Many men will have buried me there
Illusions of friendships tangled with lust
Covered with dirt from illicit affairs.
