If Not For Bread

If not for bread, then what of a crumb?
It needs the bread from which to come.
If not for feather, then what of a fowl?
It needs the feather to flee the prowl.
If not for mother, then what of kin?
We need fair mother to settle din.

And if not for flower, grass and seed
then what of the bird, cow and bee?
And if not for the lakes, rivers and streams
then what of the fish, clouds and breeze?
And if not for the sun nursing the trees
then what of the air around us we breathe?

So then, if not for us, what of what, then?

If not for us, what of the tree?
Rifled down by you and me.
If not for us, what of the blue?
Spoiled despite thirst undue.
If not for us, what of the green?
Tainted black by steel sheen.

And if not for us, what of kin?
Delivered into worldly sin.
And if not for us, what of fowl?
Wielding axe upon their jowl.
And if not for us, what of this slum?
Wherein we live to forage the crumb.

So then, if not for the attend to bird and bee;
if not for the provide of flower and seed;
if not for the soothing cloud and breeze;

Then what of the crumbs which bread us to be?

If not for bread -
My fellow friend -
If not for us..

..what then?
