Before Hearts Hated
Past race
I race past color to feel presence
Where darkness isn’t black
and a canvas isn’t white
When a soul is simply pure light
I look to conscience to define a being
Past senses
how we all look the same before we had eyes when we were closer than hugs
before we had arms
when we knew no physical harm
only inner beauty
what was beautiful then
Was that we knew everything
before our bodies
put fowl odors into our noses
profanity into our ears
Tears into our eyes
the taste of things our tongues
should’ve never tasted in the first place
Before hearts hated or minds lust
before eyes saw or hands touched
places, things and people
that they shouldn’t have
when we were just souls
before religion
before racism
before war
when Satan was faithful to God
When were all faithful to each other
Before an angel fell
before Abel too his last breath
Before death
