Difficulty in breathing occurs

My face was a tattered book
you slammed it shut
tearing the cover off
that's not how i wanted this story to end

i pinched your nipples
to jingle bells
bought striped socks
with holes already in them

told the cat to get a job
she huffed
we told her to start looking at the Huffington post

shit smeared across the floor
we're animals
aching for answers
questions curdle in our veins

the stench from the mattress
i inahled
laying face down
as you clean out ear wax
with cotton swabs

stripped bare for all to see
rotted wood planks
nailed to the tree
were steps to the sky in my childhood
