Real Men

Don't cry
That's what I had heard
But that's not quite how it works
Real men cry
In the car
On the way home from the hospital
After they turned off the machines
That eased the breathing
And kept the heart beating
If love
Is watching someone die,
Real men do it stoicly
Without a single tear.
Real men express emotions
When no one is around.
