Deep calls to Deep

Deep calls to deep

It's quite disconcerting having a lot in us, and not a lot of room outside of us to express it –
or so our chastising thoughts would have us think.
In reality, we are avoiding the ocean inside of us;
thus, petrified of stepping into the world of ocean, on the outside.
This begs the question:
Why are we so tempted to stay away from deep water, living sheltered lives…?
Evading things that test our resolve and causes us to lose our equilibrium?

Why are we so tempted to hide and gloss over our misery,
instead of swimming and navigating our immense oceans,
on the outside and within?

Dipping into shallow waters is effortlessly rewarding and safe,
or so our chastising thoughts would have us think,
whilst constructing countless ways of avoiding the mess,
enticing us into filling our days with meaningless activity:
a ploy to avoid the enigmatic, the sincerity and significance
outside and within us.

Both are frightening and magnificently powerful,
in that unfathomable way.
That deep place where answers don’t come easily: where our pain, and experiences are exposed.
We are exposed.

But…

Our incessant needs are hidden within the deep and it is only when we venture in, that we touch the pain within the pain, thwart our fears,
and connect with our intrinsic selves;
where we rise up, celebrate - and serve the world with
our truest selves, and enduring shine.

Author's Note
I have an unconditional love-affair with the ocean. It is an infinite metaphor for what is important to me.
I often think that all our (my) greats have answered that call to the deep inside of them, and therein, favoured the deep (those who are truly alive and not just existing) outside of them: Van Gogh, Anna Pavlova, Noam Chomsky, Beethoven, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Elon Musk, Sigmund Freud, Ernest Hemingway, NASA…
