To apologize is to acknowledge a damaging offense
If we've caused harm, it only makes logical sense
Yet, many can't say the words with any real purpose
Identity removed before we admit any disservice

Though quick to utter it without any conscious thought
To those we bump into but not when we're caught
Defensiveness used to protect our stupid pride
We plead innocence to those we've given a ride

Making excuses so the act is not seen as who we are
Floodgates closed before our emotions flow too far
To avoid admitting guilt, we find everything else to blame
Controlling the emotion instead with a hateful game
