Then and Now

I used to believe in Santa Claus
And Jesus Christ
As the Son of God
To whom I prayed nightly
I perceived my parents as loving and protective
Even during their mean divorce
Which developed into other relationships
That kept me out of the picture
Out of the house
Out of the country
Out of my mind
It came down to a daily grind
Where survival of the fittest
Became a litmus test
I did my best
My attitude would solve the rest
While slaving away
Then came a new day
God stepped into my shitty life
Alleviating all former strife
That's when I met my future wife
After which
Children were born
Details notwithstanding
To mix things up
When it came down to the wire
Circumstances were still dire
As I searched for a perfect landing
But if you believe in luck or fate
I was still sitting pretty
Without too many details
Of the nitty gritty
God remained in the picture
With aliens and other dimensions
As for conspiracies
While seeing them for what they are
I gave them no further mention
It only adds to the tension
As an outsider
I question myself
Truth will out
The other end
This is the wrap
Of my mind bend
