Baggage

Red lines on a calender / /
each slash a day;
each day a week
marking months toward
years of togetherness

Not from first experiences;
those heavy baggages of growth:
crush / kiss / prom /
love / marriage /
home / kids /
mistake /
regret /
guilt/

divorce /

But, a culmination of knowledge
an inner maturity forming Us:
stirring, waking, seeing
total acceptance
forgiveness
release
peace

Happiness
healing scars
of expectation

Balance

Not sunrises but sets;
our Lives magenta moments
breathtakingly passionate

where living isn't in the heat
of afternoon, but each dawn
gracing aged appreciation
for the art of Love

Our unpacked baggage
decaying in the attic;
our pasts eternal
in tombs of dust

May they both
rest in peace
~

For J, who didn't carry my
baggage, but helped me
unpack it instead
