Just.
have you ever seen the rain,
comin down on a sunny day?
when sunlight alights on a grin
whose tilting lips are dashed with tears
and the pain that twinges
seems to shake at fanciful rainbows
trembling behind dampened charcoal curtains
another application of eyeliner will do
doodles in a notebook become cartoon characters who
share their resemblance to a stick figure with a Cheshire grin
and the pencil that scrapes at the tension with harried strokes
is a chewed on toy that sadly doesn't belong to a dog.
and paintbrushes aren't watercolor accomplices but rather
a weapon to stab at the unknown
..I wanna know...
crooning a love song is a rainstorm after lightning has started
a dry brush fire...
still the flames flare
and rain only dampens the pain...
I've lost my rainbows, and my red ruby slippers,
but Toto is still at my side, and while the tin man has an imitation heart that ticks
my eyes only see a hope that fizzles out
that moment when the birthday candles are cut off from oxygen
my party favors have fallen out of the envelope and I want to leave gifts wrapped because my eyes need sweet nostalgia in a bottle
..someone told me long ago, there's a calm before the storm
peace is a song that plays over and over trying to strike the chord that freeze frames a raindrop into something beautiful, and I'm listening but I'm already caught up in the swirling winds and beating pain..
