Monsters ( Inspired by Jadembers)
When I was a child
I was scared of the
Monsters there
They say all children
Are afraid of monsters
I was not
I loved Frankenstein
And Wolf man movies
The Mummy, the Blob
It came from outer space
Dracula, the Ghoul, Jason
And the Argonaughts
Even as a child
I found them funny
They made me laugh
They made me giggle
I was never afraid of
Ghosts or goblins
Jungle Beasts and
Monsters of the deep
Raised laughter fits
Seems a bit unusual?
Somehow I knew
That those monsters
Held no fear for me
Call it lessons learned
Even as an adult now
I know that we don’t
Have to fear those
Kind of monsters
But there are monsters
As real as you and I
And they are far more
Evil than any of the
Monster in fiction
These monsters need
To be feared
You need to watch your
Back or your front
For the real evil ones
They are not the devil
Or any of his demons
These demons
These monsters
From my childhood
And my adulthood
Are all human
No exceptions
They talk to us
In your own
Language
They breath the
Same air
And without a
Single thought
They’ll damage you
In a way you can’t
Recover from
What’s that disease?
The one that destroys
All your memories?
Can’t remember its name
At the moment
I’ll come back to me
I was thinking, maybe
That is the brain shutting
Down bit by bit, starting
With the memories
Of human monsters
I hope that is true
I’ve been getting
So forgetful lately
Time for sleep

For my part, I'm the jumpiest person when it comes to loud noises, sudden touches and the dark. I still leave a light on outside my bedroom door. Monsters live in different clothes for us all, I think. Monsters we can't forget. I'll meet yours with a big stick and wrap you in a fierce hug

David, my friend, the way this flowed and the truths it held...it really got me, in such a fantabulous way...I can't even describe it...shaking my head yes, giggling here and there, tilting head to the side pondering your points and absorbing each question...yes...I liked this muchly!
A gazillion warm fuzzies for you my friend as always...wrapped just a bit tighter...

Some say that forgiveness is the first step toward healing, but I think that's bullshit. In the movies they kill the monsters, but not until the writer makes you feel sympathetic for these beasts. But I can feel no sympathy for monsters who harm children. Even King Kong and Frankenstein's monster were capable of love, even driven by it's allure. But human monsters have no such redeeming qualities. A stake through the heart or burning at the stake are insufficient justice for their crimes!

David,
I'm very honored that I inspired your lovely piece here. I truly feel honored. Thank you.
As I was saying on my work it seems the monsters have human skin. They leave the most marks. The worst scars are the ones in the mind. It is also the worst affliction in my eyes.
My first and second monster was my parents, who from day one where at best slightly neglectful. For example I needed foot surgery when I was 1 that required physical therapy. My parents did the therapy I would say 1/4 of the amount of time I needed. Another example is one time I was sick with strep and they let it go so long I developed scarlet fever. I nearly died, but all they cared about was the money it would cost. As time went on my mother became more and more neglectful and start physically hurting me. I also have and had a stomach disease, ( born with it) and they didn't seem to care much. In fact they cared so little I felt they wished it would kill me by trying to help it. Then my mom and dad let their friends take me and torture, rape, terrorize, and take pictures )to sell,or keep, I don't know). They didn't even try to press charges. It got worse and worse.
All this is why I think monsters have stripes. I think it all starts small with human monsters. I think they have different levels of depravity. I have seen compassion in monsters eyes that seemed so genuine that it always made me wonder. It made me question everything I thought I knew. It made me wonder if even the monsters themselves are hunted. If somewhere inside they can be reached if they wanted to. I also think that they don't want to come back from being consumed by whatever drives their horrindous actions.

A lot of your poems have that inspirational quality. Unfortunately I also think that the passion in this poem came from your suffering.
I was so saddened to read of your suffering and sadly we have similar experiences - I was also trafficed but by my father after he had got bored with his sexual abuse and torture to a church group at around 8 years old and I was abused and tortured from 8 to 13 I had made peace with it until about 6 years ago when I developed PTSD through surgical trauma and now I see and feel it like it was yesterday. It is unfortunate that sometime inspiration comes from a shared period of suffering.
even still thank you for inspiring me :-)))))
