Music box

She sits alone in a box
White walls surround
No windows to look outside
Captive inside of a box with nothing else around
Thoughts have come and gone in there
Nothing there will change
She can't escape and even if she did, things would never be the same
So she sits
Waits
Unable to cry
Tears swell
Not one tear drops from her eye
White like the inside of the box is her dress
Plain without design
Made of the best material that any man would find
Skin smooth as silk
Straight long hair
Her eyes were like the angel's with an absence of of glare
The fire used to burn there
It's been removed
Placed in a box
Purifying box
No doors or windows
Seemed as if chains held it closed and locked
She sits alone
No one
Nothing
She uses the one thing left of her
Beautifully she sings
Each word and note exact and clear
Filling every space in that empty room
Singing replaces the hopeless fear

He was traveling, exiled
Made to walk away his time
Unable to rest or sleep
Troubles on his mind
Cursed to be this way forever
No rest or peace can he find

Legs worn from walking
Burning soles
Mumbling along and talking to himself
Burning soul
Wonder
Without cease
Alone
Tired and worn, blisters on his feet
Walk he did through the night
Walking into the next day's light

Light came through the canopy of trees
Leaves began to crackle from the rays
Poking through the trees were beams of light
He has come upon a chained root wrapped box as he wondered into day
A crystal sparkles no better than the chains he noticed surrounding a box
Dirty beneath wrapping roots
Secured by many locks
Would have passed it if it was night
The path lead him the way
He was able to sit and look at this box as the curse that pushed him went away
Mumbling to himself
Wondering what removed the spell
What must be in the box
Who would leave it here wrapped in chains and locks
Couriously he leans on it and knocks

Thump thump thump
She hears a beating sound
Sounds like thunder shaking the ground
Screaming loud but without a reply, she sits back down and attempts to cry
She waited for some more thumping
It just stopped
Then there was nothing
Silently she sat waiting for something

Scatching his head to figure out the box
After walking around it and giving it a series of knocks, he pulls at he roots trying to get the box free
It isn't working
He leans on a tree

She placed her hands on the wall of the box
She begins to sing
Deep sorrow fills her voice
She sings louder
The inner walls of box began to shake

He hears a whisper
A sad melody
Sounded far away as he leaned on the tree
Couldn't be
Not from the box
Wrapped in roots
Covered in locks
Faint words of sorrow
"Please set me free"
"Set me free please"
"Please help me"

He found a jagged rock
Began to beat the locks
He beat and beat until he fell down
Exausted he sat on the ground
Looking and making sure no one else was around
Listening to the chant from the box made him began to cry
He lifted his hands and wiped his eyes
He grabbed one of the locks with hands wet from tears
The lock opened like a new one even though it looked as if it had been rusting for years
One by one, he lay his tears to the locks
Chain by chain was removed from the box

The roots that covered the rest of the box were withdrawing by themselves
They disappeared into the ground
Now he is standing in front of the box bare
Puts his hand on a wall of the box and asks "Who's in there"

She stops singing
She hears a voice outside
Stands up and says "Hello"
"I a daughter of the light"
"I was placed here by the darkness and it won't let me go"
"It took away my powers and placed me in here"
"My tears were meant to bring light, but it took away my tears"
"Without them I am trapped, trapped to forever be in here"

She started to sing again
Such a sad song that it made him weep
One of the walls began to cave in
Down they fell, the singing grew louder
Afraid, he sat and held himself tight
He looked up to see the brightest image walk into the light
She sat there in front of him
Placed her hands on his torn sweater
Placed her head to his and they began to cry together

Everything began to shine bright
Down the path was an illuminating light
She took his hand and began to sing once again
Caressing his face
Walking with him into the light
Taking him in

They say that sometimes when you walk that old road
You can see that light
Hear a song in the breeze
The sun shines on a bare spot where the box used to be, between the trees
Hear the footsteps in front of you and the sound of opening locks
The say the music will lead you on down the path
A song that used to come from the box
