He’s speeding down a highway going anywhere
as long as it’s a 1000 miles from here
His radio drowned out by the sound
of a garbage bag violently flapping
from the wind trying to blow it away
He breathes in the cool night air
feeling his body slowly relaxing
like a patient scared for their life
as they finally let the anesthesia take them away
He looks out at the open fields
and chuckles knowing that where ever he ends up
will be nothing like the city he's coming from
The toxically thick air is slowly consumed
by the brisk night of nowhere
The darkness in his car becomes engulfed
with the break lights ahead brining him to a stop
and all he sees is the red of a muleta
being waved in front of him
causing a heat worse then opening
a car door with leather seat on a summer day
rises through him until his knuckles are whiter
then the moon chocking the wheel
He turns the finally audible radio off
and lets the crickets sing to him
as he looks up at the star filled sky
invisible to the bright lights of his city
Finally seeing it for the first time
The red ants race back to his knuckles
giving back the color that was stolen from them
as he allows the wheel to breathe again
The cars start to gain speed until his is dark
and the garbage bag begins to flap in the wind
He laughs to himself as he puts distance between
him and the city acknowledging that it will never leave him
