Respectful Debate
"It's ok to vote No" you scream;
"I have a right to my opinion" you protest;
"I have my view, and you have yours";
Never defending your opinion, only ever your right to have one
What you don't realise,
What you refuse to understand,
What you cannot seem to begin to grasp,
Is the real suffering that these words cause
The closeted teens who can only hear hatred and hostility
The girl with two mums who is tormented without respite
The out and proud 40 year old gay man reduced to tears by the lyrics of a song
The heaving sobs of a mother whose son could not see a way out
So yes, you can have your opinion, and you can vote no, but know this:
You are to blame for the ocean of queer tears that have been shed
Every child's life that is lost, is blood on your hands
Every one of the 3000 preventable suicide attempts is a murder you are complicit in
And we. Will never. Forgive
To those who have been pushed and shoved into holes from which there seems no escape,
Please scream, shriek and shout until you are heard
There are some of us with ladders and ropes
And we have already lost too many, to see any more perish
