I Was A Fool For Believing

I was hopeful in the beginning, because I wholeheartedly believed that happy endings did exist.
You made me believe that I was the equivalent of Cinderella.
That things may have started rocky;
But you said it would all work out in the end.

So I believed you.

You told me it was raining
“The weather is just a bit dreary.”
You never told me
That it was just the tears in my eyes.

I remember when you picked me a white dandelion
You said it was the prettiest of all flowers
But what you put in my hands wasn't a delicate blossom
It was just a noxious weed.

I guess our clock struck midnight
And my perfect fantasy
Turned into a broken dream

A hollow, fictitious thought
All dreary, gloomy and grey
It feels like there is no more colour left in the world
What else do you want me to say?

“I was hopeful and naive”
“You were practical and honest”
I guess I was just a fool
For believing that happy endings did exist.
