The Mundane Prophet
I wake up in the morning
Have my coffee and cigarettes
Drive to work.
Do work.
Eat lunch.
Go home.
At home, I relax and watch TV
Make dinner for myself.
As I lie in bed, reading a book,
or browsing the internet.
My mind starts to unreel
Wander, think, ponder
I’m not doing anything extraterrestrial
Trying to change the world
Or trying to make myself a better something
I run my fingers through my mustache and beard
Contemplate the longevity of my life
If I died now, what would happen?
The world would continue in its selfish momentum
My body would decay as it would
Whether I was a king or peasant
When I wake up, do I want to do all those things again?
