Closure
I always said that one day when we’re old
we’d look back and remember
the way we used to tear each other apart,
the words we flung at one another,
the pain I suffered at the hands of you,
the injury you underwent by me.
Here we are at last, at the end of all things
and all I want you to know is that I’d go through it again
to be here with you right now.
We made it, despite all odds, and I still know
how sure I was I’d never see you again
after exchanging insults with you in a run-down apartment,
or two years later when you got off the bus without
a word to anyone
because you were starting your own life and you didn’t need me.
Now though, there is no doubt
that this is the conclusion;
but this is the only conclusion I want,
the only end to the only adventure
I can imagine for us.
