Thankful For A Father Like You
Growing up I never gave you the respect you deserved
I never gave you all the credit you earned
You always treated me as your own
But hell was all you were ever given in return
I could tell you thank you each day for the rest of my life
And it wouldn't be enough to take back all the hate I said with each fight
It took many years for me to understand the truth
Being a father to me was all you have tried to do
Now I'm thankful to have a father like you
I don't know how you kept on
Many years of hearing those constant words
'Your'e not my dad, leave me alone'
You never showed how much they hurt
Each time they would come you never gave up
You just kept showing me a fathers love
You taught me so many things
Although most of it I learned the hard way
Though I'm still thankful for those lessons I learned everyday
Now that I'm older and understand
I respect you more than any man
Because it takes a special person
To raise a child and be called dad
I could tell you thank you each day for the rest of my life
And it wouldn't be enough to take back all the hate I said with each fight
It took many years for me to understand the truth
Being a father to me was all you have tried to do
Now I'm thankful to have a father like you
Twenty two years later and your love is still the same
Thank you for being there each day
And for all the things you do
I will always be thankful for a father like you
I never gave you all the credit you earned
You always treated me as your own
But hell was all you were ever given in return
I could tell you thank you each day for the rest of my life
And it wouldn't be enough to take back all the hate I said with each fight
It took many years for me to understand the truth
Being a father to me was all you have tried to do
Now I'm thankful to have a father like you
