Just the good

When we were young, I remember
Meeting you for the very first time
You became my best friend
You know, a best friend that told me everything that was on your mind

I was a lost one, big glasses
Outcast to most
But cool enough to be your friend
We were so close

You had long hair, I mean really long hair
Your cheeks a rosy tint
We dated each other's friends and cried on each other's shoulders
We survived and high school went

I was sailing many places after
I always thought of you
Then one day you called me
Said you got my number from Sue

I came to visit you
You were beautiful with your tan skin
I was happy to see you
Indeed, my wonderful friend

What a time we had
Still kids just getting by
We laughed and spent nights where we could
We even got a little high

I returned to the east coast
I said come anytime you dare
Two weeks later you came
I started loving you from there

Your eyes were glistening blue
Your hair was still really long
Your smile lit up rooms
You were young, ready and strong

I admired your courage
Did what I would have expected a good man to do
I showed you a love with no limits
I loved the hell out of you

You were always my comfort at night
I wanted no one else
I loved you by my side
You made me feel good about self

The years have passed since then
We have been so many places
We have experienced so much life
Shown our happy and sad faces

I have aged ok, I guess
You have kept it together
I swear when I look at you
You just keep getting better

We raised each other, you know
I am thankful for each day
I am happy you are who you are
You needed it just this way

From your crooked walk to your rosy cheeks
Your now short hair
The way you speak
Your crazy smile
Over the top style
The way you are with the kids
I love you always darling
Just the good
This is what this is
