Decomposer

Do you know what I see?
Reflecting off of the sun under cover of darkness, I am still sleeping
Are my eyes even open?
As these words are being spoken
The light might be showing me ghosts of old, Novembers past and last year's advents

I don't even know if this is a dream
Or what that would mean to me considering the state of things and the ways of the world
I'm not even sure this is my voice
Because before I opened my mouth I sounded truer than I do in this moment

Yeah, something sounds different with every inch that my lips move
With my tongue as the only compass I know how to use, my head becomes useless

Yeah, I used to believe
I'd be a sparrow and sing
But now I see that I'm blind
And I might have leather wings

Lord, take all of my eyes
Before you take back the light
I need not cling to my sight
It drags me to death, not life

Now is not the right time
If my body's this far behind
Then I know nothing but lies
And I could have already died
So if I could wish then I might
To turn the world on its side
Bottom of heart in back of mind
So all of this might line up just right
