Gladness

Each time I see you smile
I can't help but shed a tear,
Not of sadness but of  joy
Joy because I know that it was never easy
That life to you was a field ever busy
Crowded with challenges that many times left you dizzy
Puzzled and each day about us you were always troubled
And your efforts often jealously argued
Life pushed you beyond breaking point
But you gathered strength always and lived just to prove a point
And kept on fighting even though we believed there was no point
Because you never gave up, today we are glad
Glad because for us you were always there
To help us carry our burdens
Turn upside down our sadness
And fill our hearts with gladness
For you there truly exists no substitute
You are one of a kind, set aside from multitudes
We owe you all our gratitude
Because today we are because you are
