if love needs compromise and turning a blind eye to issues leading to surrender of self, and I think it does. then I think true love does not exist - but it's a nice concept :-)

Love is the one that illuminates the issues so you can't turn a blind eye. It flushes the skeletons from the baggage you carry, and becomes the flotsam and jetsam you maneuver through enroute to healing yourself.    There's a difference in surrendering of ( genuine ) self and surrendering of ego / pride. The latter is a requirement of Love, not a compromise.

Love is demanding only if you choose to follow it -    " All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart."    
 
It never forces. The choice is always yours to turn from the threshing floor. And more oft than not, the majority does.

Love exists as does Truth, David. It's versions of ' Love ' and ' Truth ' that are incorrect. I think everyone, at some point in their life, has learned the devastation ego / pride can wreak in a relationship if not surrendered. This doesn't mean become a doormat. . .because Love would never wipe its feet on you. It's goal is to elevate via pruning that you expand more, not debase you.
