Unexpected Delivery
You are so busy slamming doors
Afraid of who might just walk in
You isolate yourself from feeling
Perceiving your losses as a win
And most of the time it works
Solicitors move on when they’re ignored
But me? I’m perfectly fine to wait
Like a package at your door.
I will only come inside
When it is you who takes me there
But be mindful what you hold is fragile
So, handle me with care.
I am very strong but gentle
I can lift you up and hold you there
Everything that is and all that I am
Will always be yours to share
I close my eyes and pray for you
Unspoken words felt loud and clear
Turn the lock, Throw away the key.
My love will still be here.
And if you never unwrap me
To look beyond the box (my tattered self)
My gift is still yours alone to keep
Collecting dust upon the shelf.
There is no return to sender.
I will always keep coming back to you.
Maybe in a different life or a different reality
But the same recognition - Déjà vu.
You can’t change your soul’s desire
And it will always find a way back home
Suffering through life’s perils along the way -
Like having general adaptation syndrome.
Free will, however, will always be your choice.
If you choose to keep me packaged tight
Just being in the nearness of your presence
Will feel like a window open in sunlight.
The mind is a spectacular thing and
The heart has a mind all of its own.
But the soul is the master of all fates…
Leaving you either in love or all alone.
So, slam your doors and hide behind
Or, leave a window open wide
The gift is yours, your fate is too.
Love or loss, only you can decide
Afraid of who might just walk in
You isolate yourself from feeling
Perceiving your losses as a win
And most of the time it works
Solicitors move on when they’re ignored
But me? I’m perfectly fine to wait
Like a package at your door.
