Inhale/Exhale
Inhaling the chill of the night,
My pace quickens.
I soon realize where I am.
Time stops.
Exhaling fears, anxiety, stress.
My heart slows.
I notice the sound of a train in the distance.
Time resumes.
Inhaling the scent of pine tree and oil.
My thoughts race.
I remember the diner just past the railroad tracks.
But time stops again.
Exhaling the memories of you leaving,
My heart drops lower than my self esteem.
I feel my stomach clench from disappointment and hunger.
Time resumes once more.
Each breath leading to something.
Something I've kept hidden.
I've buried it 6 feet under the smile on my face.
But, leave it to you to dig up your own grave.
Maybe while you're at it you could dance on mine.
My pace quickens.
I soon realize where I am.
Time stops.
Exhaling fears, anxiety, stress.
My heart slows.
I notice the sound of a train in the distance.
Time resumes.
Inhaling the scent of pine tree and oil.
