Why?
I’ve often wondered at depth of night
Is there farther space beyond where the stars appear?
A place that’s stranger to the light,
Silent,
Black primeval night.
***
What is the depth where silence cries
For tear drops echo here
And how hard the heart that no longer tries
For tears cannot wear away the stone
Found within your eyes.
And Yet,
I would hear you say
"I love you."
To me
Where is the tender kiss good night or the gentle kiss good morning?
That in the quiet hours bound me though you never knew it.
And how did you resist the bond
Found within my arms
Though I gave everything to please...
Every once in a while comes that moment in the depth of the night
When in stillness I awake,
And listen to hear you breath.
No look is passed or word is said, just the knowing that you’re there.
Your presence comforting quiet night, in the knowing I’m not alone.
If only such were true.
How long ago did love die in you before you killed our dream in me
And would I the wound was flesh and blood and not my soul which bleeds
When did I become dumb to you who once found me so clever,
And when did the love cease to be which you swore would last forever?
Why do you look at me that way when once you looked at me with love,
And act like it wasn’t you but I who broke our sacred trust.
Was I too complacent to see you slipping away
Or was my heart in knowing, too afraid to say?
If I needed to fight for your love – was my love so blind?
Or I could ask in kind,
Why didn’t you need to fight for mine?
How to sleep with unquiet moments and the echo of empty dreams
In silent midnight hours when hopes aren't what they seemed
You left before you were gone
But what is that
But another hell to be alone
Betrayed and betrayer both truths are one
Found in midst of the broken heart of love
So to wall others out I imprisoned me
bound by the past even though I was free
I walked in twilight in the middle of the day
And the colors of my world were mere shades of gray
I didn’t know my broken heart would take long years to heal
or the chances for love’s happiness shattered dreams would steal
But the cuts were only furrows where love’s seeds were laid
And the scars were simply hedges around the flowering glade
And deepest need was only the parched and thirsty ground
That drank deeply of your love until the pain was drowned
I no longer see with jaded eyes the hope my heart would speak
For in someone new my shattered world no longer seems so bleak
For time and truth have taught my eyes to see the world anew
And that which tore my world apart just made room for love to bloom.
***
Has springtime come that I might smile again
And has the winter past?
What is it in your smile that makes me smile back?
For love binds with silken threads and not with words alone.
But in silent glances across the room ~
And with smile and understanding interlaced
Then with touch, and kiss
And intimate embrace
Want, need and desire
Find their answer in your touch
But not in touch alone
But in the stirring of deep feelings
That your touch awakens
And have you given all your heart to prove
That I might again believe
That you will never leave
Then touch me
Touch my deepest feelings
And I would have you whisper
"I love you"
In your breath upon my ear
And I would hear,
"I love you"
Spoken again and again
In sweet rhythm upon the bed
For word and touch combined reach both height and depth
And I would share all of me with you
As we two
Become
One
Your lips on mine
Flesh on flesh
That I might bare my soul again
And throw caution to the wind
