My Thoughts Destroyed Us
I closed the door and told myself
it would only be for a moment.
I knew all too well what happened
if I sat alone in silence for too long.
But those seconds turned to minutes,
days, weeks, months, years, a lifetime.
I could hear you screaming,
but the words that once brought me back to you
only pushed me farther away.
The door threatened to break off it's hinges,
but even if you managed to get it open,
you would hurt yourself in the process.
When you were starting to give in
I heard your voice fill with agony.
You told me you were leaving,
but all I heard was breaking glass,
and it scattered across my only path,
cutting me when I tried to leave.
It was like a priceless vase
that had fallen in the midst of an earthquake.
We were never physically in pain,
but a piece of us went missing
the moment it came crashing down.
it would only be for a moment.
I knew all too well what happened
if I sat alone in silence for too long.
But those seconds turned to minutes,
days, weeks, months, years, a lifetime.
I could hear you screaming,
but the words that once brought me back to you
only pushed me farther away.
The door threatened to break off it's hinges,
but even if you managed to get it open,
you would hurt yourself in the process.
When you were starting to give in
I heard your voice fill with agony.
You told me you were leaving,
but all I heard was breaking glass,
and it scattered across my only path,
cutting me when I tried to leave.
It was like a priceless vase
that had fallen in the midst of an earthquake.
We were never physically in pain,
but a piece of us went missing
the moment it came crashing down.
