the gods are coming
the gods have left
sometimes they're loving
sometimes bereft

nephilim, oannes
kul-ku-can
jehovah and rama
they don't understand

that we are just children
we've never deserved
the sorrow and pain
the shattering nerves -

the beings around us
the birds and the bees
whales in the ocean
and all the great trees

microbes below us
and too within
are consciousness shared
on Earth as we spin -

the gods are children
who don't understand
we are all one
in the same land
