Before the calm. ( collaboration with Jack Heslop )
Boil the blood, then drain the heart :
a sense of mist
a profanity hissed
a witch's brew to be dismissed
by all who'd loathe to tear apart...
a fair foul with fair force
[ you pluck the knife
slit the scar
add a splash of vinegar ]
2.
We climbed the fabled steps
and found nothing.
no gods, no men, just an old
and empty room. all too soon
those simple cries of agony
became howls of rage;
betrayed by hate
we found the streets again
saw the gutted cars
vacant urban forts anew
the bloody bone and torn sinew.
3.
we watched the sun
fall behind the ragged skyline
then bleedout
held our breath
time after time, and listened
for someone, anyone
alive enough
to stab the silence

Still wrapping my mind--in awe-- around this one... depths of interpretation intertwined with metaphors and symbolism
It reads with an almost post-apocalyptic sense...the deafening silence, in the aftermath of total annihilation of the human population---except for those (two??) who happened upon the ruins of...(???) (welll....just my thoughts...i mean poetry being mostly subjective in meaning...:p)
With your stark, precise imagery, I found myself drawn into this piece...compelled to continue to its disquieting, chilling conclusion! .
A haunting tale--to be sure!
True melding of talented minds! Very well-done,--to you both!

Greetings fair Enchant I think apocalyptic's subjective-ness could work well if the reader applied to themself. that's to say, what would constitute your (for example) apocalypse -in terms of triggered by a level of anger. the two people could be the same person ..but I didn't say that appreciate your presence and words, Lady

The first thing that came to mind was a warrior sliding his blade against stone before making the cut ... excellent collaboration ...

i agree with above, a comment. power art! the verses hit hard n hammer the self . the self in the search in search of what...the unending search...amidst the difficult n perhaps ' ugly' clutches of it all that one needs to admit in the revival in the calm in the rebirth each turn time space...so many realizations u pack in.. brevity is one thing, ..but the way it is told is simply profound n unique .
the title n the opening stanza would remain in me ..long . for its starkness. n i couldnt say more..feels like an elevated lang u put it all there, "a fair foul with a fair force"- this. says it all. from which it further implodes lucidly . the overly desires, hypes, expectations, hate, anger, monotony, bleed bruises n pain of it all...all from this self . riding blind n high . erring blaming all out of its raging ways...there is more told . told in beauty n brevity.
to be frank enof, some poetry is just beyond a word of feedback or critic or anything..silences a reader, this is just one. ONE!
fab job you two! shine on more n tq fr the share:)

I have a thing about collabs, but have to say this one was fairly painless.
my initial inspiration came from the first few lines Jack shared. helped set the tone
fair amount of stuff packed in there, it's mostly raw and un-edited, though there were some liberties taken by myself edit-wise.
we'd a couple of titles thought up. I think the one we picked suits
you're very welcome here, fair Lady of India. more than that, I enjoy your comments, they're very thoughtful and astute.
so thanks most muchley for your words and presence. not just here in my humble pages but DU in general is much richer because id you
*hat tip*
