Once 7-26-17

She was so kind once.
But the vultures pick wisely
The type you’d find once
‘mong the humble and lowly

Her moods won’t look up
Don’t sync up anymore
With neurons booked up,
Can’t think up anymore

Picked clean by the trusted
Her soul’s frozen, rusted
No oil can recover
What the world’s burned and busted

He stood there and watched
As her heart freezer-burned
Restored all the pieces
Of past lessons learned

Once bitten by love,
Twice cut to the core
Thrice burned by her past
She, he loved evermore.

He cried as she healed
And stuck as she peeled
He may be so fluid
But she… she congealed

The flaws she endured
Left her heart on her sleeve.
Now bloodied and torn,
She could not find reprieve.

A safe sanctuary
Was deemed necessary
But not from the mirror;
‘Twas her adversary.

The halls of the heart
Were a dark corridor
Love’s not worth it, is it?
She couldn’t be sure.

Once bitten by love,
Twice been there before,
Thrice burned by her past
She, he loved evermore.
