Tanya   - -  - for the Object Elegy Comp

Thread spool to spool in red and black
The tension has to be just right
Once fitted I was ready to go
Just awaiting creative inspiration
A full bottle of correction fluid
Almost erases those mistakes
I gave you a woman’s name
Tanya; exotic and appropriate
Your sleek black glossed bodywork
Beautiful curves; very art deco
You held the keys to my heart
To my mind and my creativity
Your action well oiled and easy
Apart from that lazy “I” and “Q”
Spent many a late night with you
Creating masterpieces in the dark
A green onyx and brass desk lamp
To light our way to the blank pages
I’d stroke your slender arm and sigh
as you rang your carriage return
Not sure where you went
Now replaced by electronic nonsense
It’s just not the same my dear
I miss you like I miss my pencil
And dream of you often
As a loyal, reliable friend
Very few remember the typewriter
Especially the way I do
Sweet dreams Tanya
Wherever you are
