Watching a Brown Musk Shrew Die
It crawled out from beneath the wicker cabinet
Dragging paralyzed back legs
Head shaking oddly from side to side
Upon reaching the soft half moon rug
Beneath the water filter
It stopped
Lifting it's head with great effort
As if pleading for help
A final grasp at life
Shuddering into an oddly bent rest
The house kittens sniffed it
Uninterested
While the house cats watched solemnly
No games with this one
We buried it next to the young doeum lahong
Committing its life back to the soil
And the papayas of the dry season
